Summer Picnic – Gegužinė
Once again the Portland Lithuanian American Community celebrated their annual Summer Picnic at Lewisville Park in
Battle Ground WA. This year we had 40 plus people show up. We were joined by accordionist Arvidas Jakeliunas of
Los Angeles who made our event even better. Leading the group games was Ignas Kazilas. Latter we had a repeat of
a Football (soccer) game between the children- teenagers and the adults. This year the youth won. Joining us for the
fist time was Val Kudirka (son of Simas Kudirka). Val had an interesting tattoo of the Lithuanian National symbol the
“Vytis” on his right leg. The food this year was great with plenty of Kugelis and other Lithuanian foods. Thanks to
everyone for making this a fun event. See everyone there next year.

Christmas Gifts for Children in Lithuania – Project “Shoe Box”
Each year around Christmas time Portland – Vancouver Lithuanian community takes part in some charitable program.
This year it was decided to join a program run by the New York Lithuanians. As part of this project we will be sending
“shoebox” gift packages to Lithuanian Diabetic children. Each gift will be approximately $100 in value.
Following are the children that we – Portland – Vancouver Lithuanian community – will be sending gifts to:

XIII Lithuanian Dance Festival in Los Angeles
The Portland Lithuanian Dance Group "Aitvaras" participated in the XIII Lithuanian Dance Festival in Los Angeles CA. It
was a fantastic Festival and very well organized. Valio to the organizers and all the volunteers.
The Portland Dancers did very well and were well prepared for all their dances. A big thanks to Luana Zalpys detailish
work of making sure everyone was doing our dances perfect. The pictures from the event can be viewed here.
